SAP ECC (ERP Central Component) is the predecessor to SAP S/4HANA and served as SAP's flagship enterprise resource planning solution for most of the 2000s and 2010s. Built on the SAP NetWeaver platform, it was designed to run on various databases (like Oracle, IBM DB2, etc.). For thousands of businesses, it remains the core transactional "system of record." Its highly stable architecture was developed before the demand for real-time analytics, which prompted the creation of its in-memory successor, SAP S/4HANA.

What is the difference between a Greenfield and a Brownfield S/4HANA migration?

A Greenfield migration involves a new implementation of SAP S/4HANA, where you redesign your business processes from scratch based on modern best practices. It's like building a new house. How does SAP S/4HANA licensing work compared to our current ECC licenses?

SAP S/4HANA uses a licensing model different from SAP ECC. You cannot simply transfer your old licenses. The most common path is the Product Conversion program, where SAP offers credits for your existing ECC licenses towards purchasing new S/4HANA licenses. The new model is often based on metrics like the number of users and specific digital access points. We provide detailed licensing assessments to help you understand the full financial impact and optimize your contract with SAP.

What is the difference between mainstream maintenance ending in 2027 and extended maintenance until 2030?

Mainstream maintenance, which ends in 2027, includes full support for your SAP ECC 6.0 system, including new legal patches and updates. Extended maintenance, available from 2027 to 2030 for an additional fee, is a limited service. It supports known issues and some security patches, but does not include new functionalities or extensive updates for new legal requirements.
