SAP S/4HANA Implementation and Support for a Group of Construction Companies

LeverX assisted with the improvement and maintenance of an existing SAP S/4HANA system for a part of a construction holding, and delivered a Greenfield SAP S/4HANA implementation for another company within the group.

Client

The client is a group of European construction companies, specializing in large-scale commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects. They utilize a complex operational model that requires integration between specialized manufacturing units and on-site project management teams across business entities.

Challenge

Our client’s business consists of five companies; one of them has already implemented the SAP S/4HANA system. However, the implementation project was challenging and did not fully unlock the potential of this ERP.

Additionally, another company within the holding wanted to achieve better group financial control and seamless operational synchronization based on SAP S/4HANA and required the implementation of the ERP from scratch.

Solution

LeverX addressed the client’s dual challenge by enhancing the existing SAP S/4HANA system used by one company and delivering a Greenfield implementation for another company within the holding.

Our key project tasks were:

  • Implementing SAP S/4HANA functional modules using a rollout implementation model for cross-company harmonization
  • Updating the SAP S/4HANA system to the newer version, SAP S/4HANA 2020
  • Supporting SAP S/4HANA post-go-live application management
  • Providing services for SAP Basis support and maintenance
  • Providing SAP system customization and additional development services
  • Communicating with business users and supporting their daily tasks on request

Implementation of SAP S/4HANA modules included the following business processes and functional areas:

  • General ledger accounting
  • Sales and distribution
  • Project management
  • Procurement
  • Settlement with creditors
  • Stock records 
  • Accounting for long-term investments
  • Budget execution control and budget adjustment maintenance
  • Production planning and management

The solution is built on an SAP on-premise technology stack, ensuring stability, seamless integration, and efficient management of project and portfolio processes.

Core ERP Platform: SAP S/4HANA 2020 (On-Premise)

SAP S/4HANA 2020 serves as the foundation for enterprise operations, providing transaction processing and integration across all business domains.
This implementation includes key functional modules such as:

Portfolio and project management layer: SAP Project Portfolio Management (SAP PPM)

SAP PPM supports strategic initiative tracking, project monitoring, resource coordination, and alignment of operational projects with organizational goals.

Application management: SAP S/4HANA AMS

Post-go-live support ensures ongoing system stability, issue resolution, performance optimization, and continuous enhancements to functional and technical areas.

Technical administration: SAP Basis

SAP Basis services cover system monitoring, transport management, upgrades, configuration, and maintenance activities essential for secure and reliable S/4HANA operations.

Backend development environment: SAP ABAP

System extensions, customizations, and integrations are developed using ABAP to meet business-specific requirements beyond standard SAP functionality.

User interface framework: SAPUI5

Modern UI components and applications are built using SAPUI5, providing intuitive, responsive user experiences across devices.

Results

The SAP solutions implemented and supported by the LeverX team helped the client achieve significant process automation, transparent value chains, and optimized financial and logistics processes. After outsourcing the system support to LeverX, the company reduced the costs for its own IT team.

Since new requirements and integration points arise during the system operation, we continue to assist the customer with supporting the SAP S/4HANA system.

We have also planned the SAP Extended Warehouse Management implementation and the current system upgrade to SAP S/4HANA 2022.
