LeverX helped a U.S. food producer accelerate yard performance and decision-making by delivering a fully integrated SAP Yard Logistics, EWM, and TM solution.

Customer

A leading U.S.-based meat producer with over 3,000 employees and a strong presence in the food manufacturing sector. The company supplies premium brand and private-label meat products nationwide and is committed to delivering high-quality, safe, and consistent food products to retail and wholesale partners.

Challenge

With increasing operational demands and time-sensitive logistics in food manufacturing, the company needed to digitize and streamline their yard operations. Key challenges included:

  • Lack of automated truck Check-In/Check-Out and real-time vehicle tracking
  • Limited visibility and coordination between SAP Yard Logistics, EWM, and TM systems
  • Manual control of weighing, truck movement, and resource allocation
  • Inefficiencies in managing Yard Orders and Transportation Units (TUs), especially when delays occur
  • Need for a scalable yard solution across multiple facilities
  • Tracking transport delays and their reasons
  • Regular inspections for transport in the Yard

Project Scope

LeverX was selected to implement and customize SAP Yard Logistics across two U.S. yard locations. The project scope included:

  • Definition of yard structures and operational parameters
  • End-to-end solution architecture design for two facilities
  • Integration with SAP EWM and SAP Transportation Management (SAP TM)
  • Configuration of inbound, outbound, and internal yard movements
  • Custom enhancements for Yard Order management, including delayed TU entry and visibility

Solution Description

The LeverX team designed and deployed a scalable SAP Yard Logistics (SAP YL) solution integrated with EWM and TM. The solution addressed industry-specific logistics demands through the following key enhancements:

Automated yard operations

Truck check-in/check-out, internal movements, and weighing are now fully automated, reducing wait times and minimizing human error.

End-to-end SAP integration

Seamless connectivity between SAP Yard Logistics, EWM, and TM enables synchronized logistics processes and eliminates manual data handling.

Customized Yard Cockpit

The cockpit was configured to reflect the actual yard layout and operational workflows, providing dispatchers with an intuitive and effective interface.

Improved order visibility

An enhanced Yard Orders Overview empowers dispatchers to quickly adapt to late arrivals or last-minute transportation unit changes.

Centralized operational insight

All yard activities and truck statuses are now tracked in real time, supporting better coordination and dynamic truck prioritization.

Data-driven planning and control

Interactive dashboards support shift planning and performance tracking with clear, actionable KPI reporting.
